Punjabi dahi ka shorba recipe is made with hung curd, gram flour, turmeric, red chili, mustard and cumin seeds, and curry leave to keep the calorie content less than 100. The high protein and calcium content of this shorba is a good way to build strong bones too. Serve this Indian dahi shorba with chapattis or rice.
Tips to make curd shorba: 1. Make sure to lower the flame before adding milk, otherwise the shorba might curdle. 2. Curd shorba is best served hot with roti or rice of your choice. 3. Instead of chopped green chillies, you can add chilli paste.

For curd shorba- To make curd shorba, combine the curds, turmeric powder and besan in a deep bowl and mix well till no lumps remain. Keep aside.
- Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan and add the cumin seeds.
- When the seeds crackle, add the green chillies and ginger and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
- Add the onions and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
- Add the curds-besan mixture, milk and ½ cup of water, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Add the cucumber, tomatoes and salt, mix well and cook on a slow flame for another minute, while stirring occasionally.
- Serve the curd shorba immediately garnished with a sprig of coriander.

what is curd shorba made of? Indian dahi shorba is made from 3 cups low-fat curds (dahi), 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi), 4 tsp besan (bengal gram flour), 2 tsp low-fat butter, 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera), 2 tsp finely chopped green chillies, 1/2 tsp grated ginger (adrak), 1/4 cup finely chopped onions, 1/4 cup low-fat milk , 99.7% fat-free, 1/4 cup chopped cucumber, 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes and salt to taste. In a bowl put 3 cups low-fat curds (dahi). If not on weight loss, then use regular curd.

Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi).

Add 4 tsp besan (bengal gram flour). Besan is the binding agent so that the curd will not split when cooking.

Mix well till no lumps remain.

Keep aside curd besan mixture.

Add 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera).

Add 1/2 tsp grated ginger (adrak).

Sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.

Add 1/4 cup finely chopped onions.

Sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.

Lower the flame and add the curds-besan mixture.

Add 1/4 cup low-fat milk , 99.7% fat-free. If not on weight loss, use regular milk.

Add 1/2 cup of water.

Mix well.

Cook on a slow flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.

Add 1/4 cup chopped cucumber.

Add 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes.

Add salt to taste. We added 1/2 tsp salt.

Cook on a slow flame for another minute, while stirring occasionally.
