For Chola Dal Pudla
1 cup chola dal (split cow peas)
1/4 cup finely chopped fenugreek leaves (methi) leaves
1 1/2 tsp ginger-green chilli paste
1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
1/2 tsp garlic (lehsun) paste
salt to taste
2.25 oil for greasing and cooking

To make chola dal pudla recipe | split cow peas methi pancakes | we need chola dal. It is split cow pea (chawli). While buying ensure it is free of moisture and debris. Chola dal is an excellent source of potassium and also rich in soluble fiber which helps to eliminate cholesterol from the body, thus protecting the heart. It is also a good source folate, copper, phosphorous, iron, calcium manganese. It is certainly a source of protein like most other dals.

Clean, wash the chola dal with enough water.

Soak the chola dal in enough water in a deep bowl for at least 6 hours.

Add 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing).

Add 1/2 tsp garlic (lehsun) paste.

Add salt to taste. We added 1/2 tsp salt.

Add ¼ cup of water.

Mix well to make a batter of dropping consistency.

Put the soaked and drained chola dal in a mixer jar.

Pour a ladleful of the batter on the tava (griddle) and spread in a circular motion to make a 125 mm. (5”) diameter circle.

Grease top using ¼ tsp of oil.

Cook on a medium flame for 1 minute.

Flip over and keep cooking and flipping pudla till golden brown.

Chola dal used as a base for making these pancakes...delicious and full of fibre...i make often make this for my family...

A very simple recipe with the use of minimal ingredients like ginger green chilli paste, garlic paste and fenugreek leaves for added flavour. All you have to do it soak the chola dal, grind it and make hot pudlas for your loved ones.
