Ingredients

For Green Chutney
2 cups chopped mint leaves (pudina)
1 cup chopped coriander (dhania)
1 large onion , sliced
1 to 2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp sugar
4 to 6 green chillies
salt to taste

  1. To make green chutney, combine all the ingredients and grind to a smooth paste in a blender using very little water.
  2. Refrigerate the green chutney and use as required.

Method for the Green Chutney

  1. To make green chutney for chaat recipe | hari chutney for chaat | spicy coriander chutney for chaat | how to make green chutney for chaat |  take one fresh bunch of mint leaves. You will know the leaves are fresh when they are bright green in color and not yellow.
  2. Pick the leaves from the stems and discard the stems.
  3. Wash the leaves thoroughly to remove any dirt and dust that might be on them.
  4. Roughly chop the leaves to make it easier for blending. We will need around 2 cups of chopped mint leaves. Keep aside.
  5. Take one fresh bunch of coriander.
  6. Separate the leaves and the stems. We are only going to use the leaves and the soft stems.
  7. Rinse the coriander leaves in water to remove any dirt that might be stuck to them.
  8. Roughly chop the leaves for the green chutney. We will need approximately 1 cup of chopped coriander leaves for this chutney. Keep aside.

  9. We have also added onion in this recipe to make it a little different. We have used 1/2 cup sliced onions, which can easily be made with 1 large onion.
  10. Put the mint (pudina) leaves in a mixer jar.
  11. Then add the coriander leaves.
  12. Now add the onions. This will give a slight pungency to this tasty chutney.
  13. Now add the lemon juice. This will help maintain the color of the chutney. If you don’t add lemon juice, the chutney will keep on getting darker.
  14. Add the sugar to balance the flavor of the lemon. If you are a diabetic, then you can refer to our Low Calorie Green Chutney which is diabetic friendly.

  15. Also add roughly chopped green chillies to the blender for spice. You can increase or reduce the chillies according to your preference.
  16. Finally add salt to taste.
  17. Add 1/4 cup water so that it is easily blended.
  18. Blend into a smooth paste. You will have to stir it once or twice in between to get a smooth paste.
