Ingredients

1/2 cup powered quick cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup finely chopped spring onions whites and greens
1/2 cup urad dal (split black lentils)
2 tsp crushed black pepper (kalimirch)
salt to taste
2 tsp oil for greasing and cooking
Method

  1. To make oats appe, soak the urad dal in enough water in a deep bowl and keep aside to soak for 1 hour. Drain well.
  2. Blend the urad dal in a mixer using ¼ cup of water till smooth.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a deep bowl, add the oats, spring onions, crushed black pepper and salt and mix very well.
  4. Heat an appe mould on a medium flame and grease it using ¼ tsp of oil. Pour 1 tbsp of the batter into each mould and cook using ¼ tsp of oil till the lower surface becomes golden brown and then turn each appe upside down using a fork so as to cook them from the other side as well.
  5. Repeat step 4 to make more appes.
  6. Serve the oats appe immediately.

  2. Add 1/2 cup water.
  3. Blend till smooth.
  4. Transfer the mixture into a deep bowl.
  5. Add 1/2 cup quick cooking rolled oats.

  7. Add 2 tsp crushed black pepper (kalimirch).
  8. Add salt to taste.
  9. We added an extra 2 tablespoons of water as we felt the batter was a bit dry.
  10. Mix well.

Cook using little oil till they turn golden brown in colour on the lower surface.  As soon as the appe starts leaving the sides and can be flipped over your appe is ready to flip over. This will take 2 to 3 minutes to do. Always cook on a medium flame or else they will not cook well and may also get burnt.  
     
  6. Flip and cook till they turn golden brown in colour from the other side. This will take 2 to 3 minutes to do. Always cook on a medium flame or else they will not cook well and may also get burnt. oats appe is ready. Make again to make a total of 14 oats appe. 
  7. Serve oats appe | oats vegetable appe | healthy oats appe | with coconut chutney.
