During my childhood, my mother used to give me turmeric jaggery balls and ginger jaggery balls which saved me from cough, cold etc. This recipe too has same purpose for retaining safety from cough & cold. Turmeric and ginger has lots of other benefits, which i have gone through tarla mam''s articles. This pickle recipe is simple to make, but with lots of health benefits. Thanks to her...

Hello...I have tried this recipe first time recently although I have seen in gujarati households more often in their balconies .I also tried and made it but after few days since its winter I thought it will be ok keeping it in kitchen shelf for daily use and didn''t refrigerate. After 10days I am seeing white layer on top of the pickled water and after consuming it my stomach got upset .I didn''t make out the reason.Only I ate it and nobody ate so I found the obvious reason of getting stomach infection from it. Since haldi and adrak both are anti allergic and antibiotic ..I don''t know why it happened ??

Dear Anjali, the only reason is that you did not refrigerate. This pickle should be refrigerated within 5 hours of making it. Prefer to store in a glass bottle.

The authentic recipe does not make use of kairi, but you can add. As mentioned in the recipe, this achar can last upto 6 to 8 months when store in the refrigerator.

This is a very unique version of the turmeric pickle with the goodness of ginger when compared to the traditional turmeric pickle.
