Making Sweet Potato Roti

 

  1. In a deep bowl put whole wheat flour, sweet potato, hali, cumin seed powder, carom seeds (ajwain), coriander and salt to taste.
  2. Mix well.
  3. knead into a soft dough using enough water.
  4. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
  5. Roll out a portion into a 125 mm. (5") diameter circle using a little whole wheat flour for rolling.
  6. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook on a medium flame, using ½ tsp of ghee, till it turns golden brown in colour from both the sides.
  7. Serve Sweet Potato Roti immediately.

    3. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi).

    4. Add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder. Cumin has a distinct warm, earthy, and slightly bitter flavor that complements the sweetness of sweet potatoes.

    5. Add 1/4 tsp carom seeds (ajwain). Carom seeds have a strong, pungent, and slightly bitter flavor, often described as similar to thyme or oregano.
