When hunger strikes suddenly, this oats chivda is sure to answer your appetite in a tasty and crunchy way. poha oats chivda is made of roasted oats, poha, peanuts and chana dal with a sprinkling of spice powders for a dash of excitement.

Notes on oats chivda recipe. 1. To prepare roasted poha oats chivda, in a broad non-stick pan, add the poha. We are using the thin variant of poha and not the thick which is generally used to make Kanda poha and batata poha. 2. Dry roast on a medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes or till they turn light brown and crispy. If you stir too much, the thin poha might break so, make use of a pan with handles and toast by shaking the pan. 3. You can even add roasted sesame seeds, peanuts, cashew nuts, raisins, almonds, pumpkin seeds or flax seeds to make the oats poha chivda more delectable and nutritious.

This tiffin and travel snack oats chivda is ideal to store in an air-tight container and munch on when you are hungry, or to even send to school in the tiffin box on a rushed day when you do not have much time on your hands to prepare elaborate treats.

Method
For oats chivda
  1. To make oats chivda, combine the poha and oats in a broad non-stick pan and dry roast on a medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove and keep aside.
  2. Heat the oil in the same broad non-stick pan, add the peanuts and sauté on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Add the roasted chana dal and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
  4. Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, asafoetida and curry leaves and sauté on a medium flame for a few more seconds.
  5. Add the poha-oats mixture, powdered sugar and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirirng occasionally.
  6. Store the oats chivda in an air-tight container.
How to pack
  1. Allow the oats chivda to cool completely and pack in an air-tight tiffin box.

How to make Roasted Poha and Oats Chivda

    4. Remove in a bowl or a plate and keep aside.
    5. To prepare roasted poha and oats chivda, heat the oil in the same broad non-stick pan. For a healthier alternative, make use of olive oil.
    6. Once the oil is hot, add the peanuts. The number of peanuts and chana dal can be adjusted as per your liking.
    7. Sauté on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
    8. Add the roasted chana dal. You can even add roasted sesame seeds, peanuts, cashew nuts, raisins, almonds, pumpkin seeds or flax seeds to make the oats poha chivda more delectable and nutritious.
    9. Sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
    10. Add the turmeric powder.
    11. Add chilli powder. Add more or less chilli powder as per your spice tolerance.
    12. Add asafoetida.
    13. Add curry leaves. To enhance the flavour of poha oats chivda, you can also add garam masala, amchoor powder or coriander-cumin seeds powder.
    14. Sauté on a medium flame for a few more seconds.
    15. Add the poha-oats mixture.
    16. Add powdered sugar so it mixes well in the oats chivda | poha oats chivda | tiffin and travel snack oats chivda |.
    17. Add salt.
    18. Mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Our Roasted Poha and Oats Chivda is ready.
    19. Store oats chivda | poha oats chivda | tiffin and travel snack oats chivda | in an air-tight container. Allow it to cool completely and pack in an air-tight tiffin box.

Hello :) I have been making poha chevda quiet often.But first time I tried with mixing oats which taste equally good. I have also altered bit by adding cashew n fennel powder. Cashew bcoz I like it ;) And fennel to give more aroma n taste to it.
