To make komal drink, combine the curds, coconut milk, coriander, green chillies and sugar along with1 1½ cups of water in a bowl and mix well till the sugar dissolves. Add the salt, mix well and keep aside. For the tempering, heat the oil in a small pan, add the cumin seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves. When the seeds crackle, pour the tempering over the drink. Remove the green chillies and discard them before serving. Serve immediately.

    1. What is Komal drink made off? Komal drink is made from 1 cup curds (dahi) , whisked, 1 cup coconut milk, 1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania), 2 green chillies , slit green chillies, 1 tsp sugar, salt to taste, 1 tbsp oil, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera), 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing) and 2 curry leaves (kadi patta).
Making Komal drink

 

    1. To make komal drink | Gujarati komal drink | coconut flavoured buttermilk |  in a deep bowl put 1 cup curds (dahi) , whisked.
    2. Add 1 cup coconut milk.
    3. Add 1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania).
    4. Add green chillies , slit green chillies.
    5. Add 1 tsp sugar (optional). I skipped the sugar as i prefer the drink not to have any sweetness. 
    6. Add 1 1/2 cups of water.
    7. Mix well till the sugar dissolves.
    8. Add salt to taste.
    9. Mix well. Remove the green chillies. 
    10. Pour into 4 big glasses or use 6 small cutting chai glasses. We poured in 6 small glasses and there was enough komal drink | Gujarati komal drink | coconut flavoured buttermilk | for another 3 glasses. NOTE : If you wish you can skip adding the temering shown below as the drink tastes great at this stage. Just our opinion.
Tempering for Komal drink

 

    1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a small pan
    2. Add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera).
    3. Add 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing).
    4. Add curry leaves (kadi patta).
    5. When the seeds crackle, pour the tempering over the drink.
    6. Mix komal drink | Gujarati komal drink | coconut flavoured buttermilk | well.
    7. Refrigerate komal drink | Gujarati komal drink | coconut flavoured buttermilk | and serve chilled.

The name is a little weird but this Komal drink recipe is just like a chaas but with a twist by using Coconut milk..Was a little skeptical to try it first..But Then I tried it out and it was really nice..The jeera tadka gave it a very nice taste which was just yummm!!! A good recipe to try out..
