Pav bhaji and burger are two dishes that are loved by all. So here, we have got you a pav bhaji burger recipe where India meets Western. We have given it a fusion twist by combining both pav bhaji and burger making it pav bhaji burger.
Burger is here given an Indian avatar and which makes a luscious snack recipe. You can make it for a dinner as well. I usually make pav bhaji burgerpav bhaji burger for parties, get-togethers and kitty parties.
To make Indian style pav bhaji burger we have made the bhaji using the traditional bhaji ingredients just making it a little thicker than usual and have sandwiched it between burger buns. We have cut the burger buns into 2 portion, have spread the portion of bhaji on lower half of the burger bun. Sprinkled grated cheese, you can replaced it with a cheese slice. We have placed onions on top, you can even use grated cabbage. Further, sandwich with the upper half of the bun and grill in a griller until golden brown and crispy. You can also roast it on tava if you do not have griller. Serve the pav bhaji burger immediately.

For the bhaji- Heat the butter in a deep non-stick pan, add the onions and capsicum and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
- Add the chilli-garlic paste and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
- Add the tomatoes and 2 tbsp of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, pav bhaji masala and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Add the green peas, cauliflower, carrots, potatoes and ¼ cup of water and mix well. Mash it well using a potato masher and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Add the coriander and mix well.
- Divide it into 8 equal portions and keep aside.
How to proceed to make pav bhaji burger- Cut each burger bun horizontally into two. Apply 1 tsp butter on the insides of each half of the burger bun.
- Place the lower half of a bun on a clean, dry surface with the buttered side facing upwards and spread one portion of the bhaji. Sprinkle 1 tbsp of cheese and place 2 onion rings over it.
- Place the upper half of the bun over it with the buttered side facing downwards and press it lightly.
- Brush ½ tsp butter again on the top of the bun and keep aside.
- Grease the sandwich griller with ½ tsp butter and allow it to heat up.
- Place the burger in the griller and grill for 3 to 4 minutes or till they turn crisp and brown in colour.
- Repeat steps 2 to 6 to make 7 more burgers.
- Serve the pav bhaji burger immediately.

Mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Cook till tomatoes are soft and mushy.

Add the turmeric powder.

Add chilli powder. Increase or decrease the quantity as per the spice you prefer.

Add pav bhaji masala. My kitchen is always stocked with a jar of fresh homemade pav bhaji masala made using this recipe of Pav Bhaji Masala.

Add salt.

Mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.

Add cauliflower. You can pressure cook all the vegetables or cook them in a pan.

Add carrots. This is optional. It just increases the nutrient quotient of the bhaji making the pav bhaji burger a healthy treat for kids.

Mix well. Apart from the vegetables mentioned above, you can also add any of your favorite vegetables. Bottle gourd, beetroot, broccoli, bell peppers, raw banana, sweet potato blend well and do not make major difference in the flavor of pav bhaji so, you can add in a little to make it healthier. Mash it well using a potato masher and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.

Add the coriander and mix well and our bhaji is ready to assemble pav bhaji burger. You can also roll bhaji into a patty and server it between buns but, we want to keep this a quick and easy recipe so, not doing so.
