oats rava palak dhokla is a quick fare which can be enjoyed for breakfast as well as at snack time. Learn how to make instant rava and oats dhokla.

You might have tried a variety of dhokla with various flours, flavours and tempering, but have you ever tried a combination of oats, semolina and spinach for your dhokla batter? This spinach oats dhokla is a slightly better option as this combo has the goodness of fibre from oats and iron as well as folate from spinach.

To make oats rava palak dhokla, combine the oats, semolina, curds, green chilli paste, salt and ½ cup of water in a deep bowl, mix well and keep aside for 15 minutes. Add the spinach and 2 tbsp of water and mix well to make a batter of dropping consistency. Just before steaming, add the fruit salt and ¼ cup of water over it. When the bubbles form, mix gently. Pour the batter into a 200 mm. (8”) diameter thali and shake the thali clockwise to spread the batter in an even layer. Steam in a steamer for 10 to 12 minutes or till the dhoklas are cooked. Keep aside to cool for 3 to 4 minutes and cut into diamond shaped equal sized pieces. Serve immediately.

Batter for oats rava palak dhokla

 

    1. To make the batter for oats rava palak dhokla | instant rava and oats dhokla | spinach oats dhokla | instant oats rava dhokla | in a deep glass bowl put 1/2 cup powdered quick cooking rolled oatsFor ½ cup of powdered oats, blend ¾ cup of quick cooking rolled oats in a mixer.
    2. Add 1/2 cup semolina (rava / sooji).
    3. Add 1/4 cup low fat curd (dahi).
    4. Add 1/2 tsp green chilli paste.
    5. Add salt to taste.
    6. Add ½ cup of water. You may need a little more or less water depending on the rava.
    7. Mix well.
    8. Cover and keep aside for 15 minutes.
    9. You can now see that all the water has been absorbed.
    10. Add 1/2 cup chopped spinach (palak).
    11. Add 2 tablespoons of water.
    12. Mix well to make a batter of dropping cocsistency.
    13. Just before steaming, add 1/2 tsp fruit salt.
    14. Add ¼ cup of water over it.
    15. See the bubbles coming out.
    16. Mix lightly. You can never beat this mixture while making any dhokla after adding fruit salt.
Steaming oats rava palak dhokla

 

    1. This is what a dhokla steamer looks like.
    2. On top of the grease the dhokla plate with some oil. We have used a brush.
    3. Pour the batter into a 200 mm. (8”) diameter thali and shake the thali clockwise to spread the batter in an even layer.
    4. Steam in a steamer for 10 to 12 minutes or till the dhoklas are cooked.
    5. This is what the dhoklas look like.
    6. Keep aside to cool for 3 to 4 minutes and cut into diamond shaped equal sized pieces.
    7. Cut a vertical lines accross the dhokla first. We want to cut into square shape dhoklas.
