6 medium oranges
a pinch of black salt (sanchal) , optional

  1. To make orange juice at home cut each orange into 2 halves horizontally.
  2. Remove and discard the seeds and peel.
  3. Separate the orange pieces and them to a mixer / blender jar.
  4. Add around ½ cup of water and blend till smooth.
  5. Strain the orange juice using a strainer. Add black salt if you wish to.
  6. Serve the orange juice immediately.

  1. To make orange juice at home , buy good quality oranges. Choose oranges that are unblemished and heavy for their size. Avoid those with cuts, soft spots or mould. Take around 6 oranges.
  2. Cut each orange into 2 halves horizontally using a sharp knife.
  3. Now using a fork or the back of a spoon or a knife deseed the orange halves. Discard the seeds. Removing the seeds at this stage before blending is necessary to prevent the juice from turning bitter.
  4. Next peel the orange halves to make orange juice with mixer, blender. Discard the peels.
  5. As soon as you peel them, the orange pieces will start loosening. Separate the orange pieces and keep them in a plate or chopping board. You don’t need to remove the white skin.
  6. Transfer the orange pieces into a mixer / blender jar to make homemade orange juice.

  4. This is the orange juice that will get collected in the container of the manual citrus juicer below. 
  5. Discard these seeds, remaining fibrous pulp and the peels.
  6. Strain the orange juice if required to get a clear orange juice with manual citrus juicer. If you wish you can add a pinch of black salt and / or chaat masala to make the juice more flavourful.
  7. Serve orange juice immediately.
