This fresh herbal tea packed and honey combed hot drink is just perfect to perk up your spirits when you are down with fever and cold. Tulsi, the Queen of herbs, is best when chewed. However, you can also consume it by boiling it in water like done in this tea. The phytonutrients eugenol and cineole work their magic by acting as anti-inflammatory agents.

Ginger tulsi tea for cold is quite soothing to the throat. While the benefits of tulsi and ginger in relieving congestion and soothing the respiratory system are well known, few know that vitamin C rich mint also helps in relieving cold and cough.

To make homemade herbal tea, combine the tulsi leaves mint and ginger in a mixer and blend to a coarse paste using very little water. Transfer the paste into a non-stick saucepan, add 1½ cups of water, mix well and boil for 5 to 7 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Strain the mixture using a strainer, add the honey and mix well. Serve immediately.

What is herbal tea made off?

  1. What is herbal tea made off? herbal tea is made from 4 simple ingredients like 1/2 cup basil leaves, 1/4 cup mint leaves (pudina), 1 tbsp roughly chopped ginger (adrak) and 2 tbsp honey.

What is tulsi

  1. This is what tulsi looks like. Tulsi, also known as the Indian basil or the holy basil, is often referred to in India as the Queen of Herbs. Considered a holy herb, it is grown in almost every Hindu household. Apart from being considered holy, tulsi is also revered as a great healer. Its leaves and roots are used in various medical decoctions, believed to soothe and heal the mind and body.
  2. Pluck the leaves from the stem.
  3. Wash the leaves in clean water. All the small particles of dirt will settle at the bottom.
  4. Strain the water out.

Making fresh herbal tea

  1. In a mixer put 1/2 cup tulsi leaves. See above on details of washing and preparing tulsi leaves.  Tulsi has the anti-bacterial property which helps to relieve cold. It’s known to boost immune system and keep other diseases at bay. By maintaining the pH balance in the stomach it helps to ease acidity. Some phytochemicals in tulsi are known to protect against cancer too. Being an antioxidant it detoxifies the body as well. The most effective time to have this Tulsi Water is early in the morning on an empty stomach. Make it a habit of consuming Tulsi Water for a healthy body free of stress, anxiety and depression.
  2. Add 1/4 cup mint leaves (pudina). Mint (pudina) being an anti-inflammatory reduces the inflammation in the stomach and shows a cleansing effect. Sipping on a healthy drink like fresh mint and lemon tea is the best option to overcome nausea for mums-to-be. Moreover it's vitamin A (10% of RDA) and vitamin C (20.25%) serve as an additional boost to bring relief from cough, sore throat and also cold. Mint (pudina) is a leafy vegetable which is sure to create nourishing dishes without piling on calories, carbs or fat for that instance.   4. Grind to a coarse paste.

Cooking the fresh herbal tea

  1. Transfer the paste into a non-stick saucepan.
  2. Add 1½ cups of water.
  3. Mix well.

  7. Let it cool down to luke warm and then add 1 teaspoon honey. This is done to offset the strong adrak taste.
