Ingredients

For Masala Pav
3 ladi pav
butter for spreading

For The Masala Pav Masala
1 tbsp pav bhaji masala
2 tbsp oil
1 cup chopped onions
2 tsp finely chopped garlic (lehsun)
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
2 tsp finely chopped ginger (adrak)
1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1/4 cup chopped capsicum
salt to taste
a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp black salt (sanchal)

For The Garnish
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)

For Serving With Masala Pav

Method

For the masala pav masala

    For the masala pav masala
  1. Combine the oil, onions and garlic in a microwave safe bowl, mix well and microwave on high for 4 minutes.
  2. Add the tomatoes, ginger, green chillies, pav bhaji masala, turmeric powder, chilli powder and black salt, mix well and microwave on high for 3 minutes.
  3. Add the capsicum and salt, mix well and microwave on high for another 2 minutes.

  1. To make masala pav, divide the masala into 6 equal portions. Keep aside.
  2. Slit a ladi pav horizontally into 2.
  3. Apply little butter on each side of the pav.
  4. Put a portion of the masala on one halve and close it. Put 1 more portion of the masala evenly over the pav till it gets evenly coated form all the sides and microwave on high for 30 seconds.
  5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to make 2 more masala pavs.
  6. Garnish with coriander and serve the masala pav immediately with onion rings and lemon wedges.

For the masala of masala pav

  1. For the microwave masala pav recipe, in a microwave safe bowl take oil and butter.
  2. Add the onions and garlic. These are the quintessential ingredients of masala pav. Also, you can add a tablespoon of spicy chilli-garlic paste.
  3. Mix well and microwave on high for 4 minutes.
  4. Add the tomatoes.
  5. Also, add the ginger and green chillies. You can even make use of ginger-green chilli paste if you are in a hurry.
  6. Add the pav bhaji masala. To make pavbhaji masala at home, refer our recipe for homemade pav bhaji masala.
  7. Add the turmeric powder and chilli powder. For a bright red colour, add Kashmiri red chilli powder.
  8. Add the black salt. It gives a chatpata flavor to the masala.
  9. Mix well so that the masalas are spread evenly.
  10. Microwave on high for 3 minutes.
  11. Add the capsicum and salt.
  12. Mix well.
  13. Microwave on high for another 2 minutes. Your masala is ready!

  7. Garnish the Masala Pav with coriander.
  8. Repeat steps 2 to 6 and make 2 more masala pavs.
  9. Serve the microwave masala pav immediately with onion rings and lemon wedges.
