  1. To make panch phoron moong dal, combine the yellow moong dal, turmeric powder and 2½ cups of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Keep aside.
  3. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan, add the dry red chillies and panch phoron and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  4. Add the onions and ginger-garlic paste and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
  5. Add the cooked dal, salt and 1 cup of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve panch phoron moong dal hot.

    1. Take 1 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram).
    2. Wash it well and add enough water.
    3. Cover and soak it for 2 hours.

    8. Heat 1 tsp oil in a deep non-stick pan.
    9. Add 1 whole broken dry red chillies. 
    10. Add 2 tbsp of panch phoron
    11. Sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
    12. Add ¼ cup finely chopped onions.
    13. Add 2 tsp ginger-garlic (adrak-lehsun) paste.
    14. Sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
    15. Add the cooked dal.
    16. Add 1/8 tsp salt.
    17. Add 1 cup of water.
    18. Mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
    19. Serve panch phoron moong dal hot.

It?s tastes good .. just that it?s not spicy it?s very mild in taste .. people who like to have lil spicy then I guess green chillies should be added ..

Such a easy dal to make for someone like me who hardly cooks. Made it really quickly and my dal turned out perfect and delicious after following the detailed instructions. Will make it everyday for my tiffin. Love it with my rotis.
