Festival or no festival, Indians love sweets! And, with the festival season just around the corner, the search for easy but tasty sweets like Quick Mawa Peda only becomes more intense.

Well, here is one recipe that is sure to make it to your book of favourites. The traditional, evergreen mithai - Khoya Peda has been made easy and quick using readymade mawa. Make sure you use regular mawa for this peda and not the hariyali mawa that is used to make Gulab Jamun .

This Instant Mawa Peda is quicker than most other pedas but retains its authenticity and traditional charm. It will last for a week if stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

I would like to suggest to some tips to make the perfect mawa peda recipe. 1. Buy the mawa which is used to make mithais. 2. Add 2 tbsp milk to mawa if the khoya from market is too dry, this will help to make soft mava pedas. Also, it is advisable to make use of a heavy bottomed pan when making Indian mithais but, since this is an instant mava peda recipe we are using a non-stick pan. 3. Refrigerate the Quick Mawa Peda mixture for 20 minutes. This makes the process of shaping the pedas easier.

You can also try other mithais using mawa like Amrit Modak, Jaripalla Churma and Kopra Pak.

For making the mawa peda

  1. For making the mawa peda, firstly grate the mawa, measure all the other ingredients and keep them ready. Buy the mawa which is used to make mithais.
  2. Now, put the mawa in a broad non-stick pan. Most local dairies sell mawa or khoya but, you can even make mawa at home using our recipe of homemade khoya recipe. Add 2 tbsp milk to mawa if the khoya from market is too dry, this will help to make soft mava pedas. Also, it is advisable to make use of a heavy bottomed pan when making Indian mithais but, since this is an instant mava peda recipe we are using a non-stick pan.
  3. Mix well and cook the mawa on a medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes, while stirring continuously so that it does not stick to the bottom of the pan. You will see the mava has started to change its colour and has turned little brown. Once it starts forming a mass, oozes fat and easily leaves the sides of the pan, the mava is cooked and ready to make mava peda.
  4. Transfer the mava mixture into a large plate.
  5. Spread it evenly with the help of a spatula and cool for atleast 20 minutes or till the mixture can be easily handled using bare hands.
  6. Add the sugar. You can increase or decrease the quantity as per your preference.
  7. Also, add the cardamom powder. You can also add 1 tsp of saffron-milk mixure or kewra water to enhance the flavor of khoya peda.
  8. Mix gently with your hands and our mixture for Mava Peda is ready. Mixing gently with your hands is important else the ghee from mawa can separate out. The mixture should finally bind like a dough.
  9. Refrigerate the Quick Mawa Peda mixture for 20 minutes. This makes the process of shaping the pedas easier.
  10. Divide the Khoya Peda mixture into 10 equal portions.
  11. Roll each portion into a ball.
  12. Then flatten it slightly in between your palms. You can make a criss cross pattern on the instant mava peda with the help of a knife, fork or thread to make it look good.
  13. Form a depression in the center using your finger.
  14. Place an almond halve in the depression. You can also use other dry-fruits like pistachio or chironji alternatively or use a silver-leaf to decorate the quick khoya peda.
  15. Press the almond halve lightly so it is secure.
  16. Serve the mawa peda recipe | instant mawa peda | khoya peda | or store in an air-tight container and refrigerate it. Use as required.
