Chaklis, the popular Indian snack, is usually deep-fried and contains loads of calories and if made in a South Indian style it makes use of high glycemic index ingredient – rice flour too.
Recipe Description for Non Fried Besan Chakli, Besan Murukku
- To make {span class="bold1"}non fried besan chakli{/span}, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl, mix well and knead into a soft dough using enough water.
- Put the mixture into a chakli press and press out round swirls of the dough onto a greased baking tray, working closely from the centre to the outside of the swirls to make approximately 50 mm. (1½") diameter swirl. You will get about 25 chaklis.
- Bake them in a pre-heated oven at 180°c (360°f) for 30 minutes.
- Cool and store the {span class="bold1"}non fried besan chakli{/span} in an air-tight container.
- However it is highly recommended that this recipe be relished by diabetics only occasionally and in small quantities. This is just a mere 'treat' and does not qualify for a regular diabetic menu.
