Indian Whole Wheat Bread Snacks 

The most basic and common use of sliced bread is to use it in a sandwich. A really good whole wheat sandwich that everyone loves is a Vegetable Grilled Sandwich.  This can be made by grilling any type of sandwich, my favorite being the sandwich stuffed with shredded veggies and cheese. Another delicious sandwich variation is the Creamy Toast Sandwich with carrots, peas, chillies and cheese!

Kids love all things bread! Don’t make the usual butter toast but instead make the Cheesy Golden Fingers, which is an upgrade from the regular for sure! Apart from sandwiches, you can even make Masoor Tikkis with whole wheat bread as snacks. This tikki is made with red lentils, paneer and bread and is served along with a delicious curd dip.

Whole Wheat Bread for Indian Breakfast 

Whole wheat bread can be incorporated in Indian breakfast in many ways. A few of those amazing breakfast recipes are

  • Soya and Green Peas Cutlet – these tava cooked cutlets will leave you craving for more. This cutlet has a little of everything – potatoes, soya, peas, bread, spinach, onions and even carrots that is flavored with different spices.
  • Rava Toast -this toast is unique to make and eat. Instead of just putting ready items on a toast, we put the rava batter on the bread and then cook it together to get the perfect crispy yet soft texture.
  • Bread Pakoda – These might not be healthy but they are so delicious that you will want to eat them every day! This deep fried snack is stuffed with paneer, chilies and peas , coated in besan and then cooked to perfection.

Whole Wheat Indian Sandwiches 

Who doesn’t love a good sandwich? What makes it better are the nutrients that whole wheat bread provides that regular white bread doesn’t. Rajma and Paneer sandwich is a filling dish that is not only delicious but also provides both calcium and protein. Another great sandwich is the Spicy Sprouts Sandwich.The flavorful sprouts in the sandwich are masaledaar and can be enjoyed by all!

If you don’t want to eat too much bread in a sandwich, making open toasts with different types of fillings will suit your palate. In the Mushroom Open Toast, the mushrooms are sautéed in a chilli garlic sauce along with tomatoes and had on top of toasted whole wheat bread slices.

Is whole wheat bread, gehun ka bread healthy?

Well, the use of bread is relative and individualistic. Whole wheat bread is better choice than white bread made from refined plain flour. Compared to maida-based bread which is surely to be avoided, the bread made with whole wheat grain that is milled or with whole wheat flour is a healthier alternative. Whole wheat bread has more fiber than the white bread, which helps in maintaining weight, blood sugar and blood cholesterol levels. However both the varieties of bread are almost at par in their carb count. So moderation is the key here.
