In Andhra Pradesh,this recipe is called Bobbattu and is made during Makara Sankranti/Pongal festival. Dough is made of Maida.Stuffing will be more so that after frying with ghee, the stuffing is covered with thin layer of dough.The stuffing is also visible from the layer of dough. Total thickness of Bobbattu will be 3-4 mm and tastes very good. Sugar can also be used instead of Jaggery. Moderate Sweetness will be maintained so that children will also like it

I being Gujarati, I have always made puranpoli using toovar Dal. Tried this recipe using chana dal and everyone at my place really loved it. The jaggery proportion in this recipe is up to the mark and the puranpoli is not that sweet. It is a must try recipe.
