Found a cookbook, "The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking" that my mum had since I was a child—now using it too with my babies. The memories and the simplicity of enjoying sweet easy recipes. I pray it will pass on. Thank you Tarla and Rest in Peace.

To a novice who never knew how to cook , Tarla Dalal was like a god sent saviour. She introduced us to exotic and daily dishes with such detailed guidelines. If I am a good cook today( seems pompous) I have to thank my mom and Tarla Dalal. When India hardly knew what Italian , Mexican and Continental food was she transformed those complicated dishes into doable dishes. Thank You

My mom an excellent cook herself, bought "The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking" and my culinary journey began at the age of 14. Mom started collecting TD's books. After my wedding I was challenged by my husband's friend to cook a meal for them and I confidently cooked using the TD books - some gifted some bought. Have been collecting and cooking using her books and am confident to try recipes for the first time when inviting guest and be sure that they will come out great. Now as my children have started cooking they too have started cooking using TD. Thanks for writing and creating such plethora of recipes for us to enjoy.

I was a fan on Tarla aunty on TV since then and when our cable wala used to show her shows of delicious recipes. I had a crush for kitchen and did my diploma in hotel management because of two people, one -man Sajeev Kapoor and another -lady Tarla Dalal. Indeed its late to write for a message after around one and half years of her demise but still I felt that there has been a emptiness in my kitchen till date. I miss you Tarla aunty.RIP.

- Mamta Gupta on 11 Nov 14

my cooking was just boring and usual and typical cooking. I bought a couple of recipe books of Tarla Dalal, sighned up for recipes online in her website and now my family looks upon me for new recipes every weekend. She made my cooking so special that all my guests never say no whenever I invite them home. Thank you for making my life special

- Sujatha Ganesh on 10 Nov 14

When I was french teacher in New Delhi, my students presented me the Tarla Dalal's New indian vegetarian cookery... it was almost 30 years ago, I am now back to France and stilland always using Tarla Dalal recipes. She is a source of inspiration to me, the angels are lucky to share her smile forever. Thank you Madam.

- Dominique Jeantet on 09 Nov 14

She made cooking seem such fun to young and old. Her style of teaching was so charming and above all, her smile added that extra flavour to every dish. God bless her soul and may she continue to smile wherever she is.

- Usha on 08 Nov 14

It is easy to not miss her, because she was about food and most people cook for fun. And in a world of plenty, it would seem there are other blogs and other sites. But truth is, the food she designed for us through her recipes were filled with her quiet love and it is that love that expresses when we take the first lick of our cooking and say, wow! Her brand of people ended with her. That unconditional sharing, that uninhibited style of talking and presenting a show, that 'This is Tarla Dalal speaking...!' is gone forever. She embodied the love of cooking and the fantastic-ness of deliciousness. Her designing of recipes can never be achieved by anyone, simply because her recipes are only about giving love. When you cooked her recipes and fed your family, they always, always looked up and said, 'Mom this is so fabulous' and you got your hugs abundantly. Nobody can replicate that feeling ever again, never again. Tarla-ben was the last of the home grown cooks. The ones who cooked out of love. Then the Lord broke the mould....! Cooking has not felt the same without you Tarlaben!

- meera seth on 08 Nov 14

You were such an inspiring person. As of today too your recipes seem to have your presence. You have inspired and will continue to do so.Thank you.

Mam you made me become better each day in my culinary skills. Whenever I want to test any new recipe I always go back to you. The first thing that comes to my mind is let me see Tarla Mams site first. You will be an inspiration for generations to come.

- Priti Maheshwari on 07 Nov 14

Simplicity in every recipe that you read...making it simple even before you start, especially for someone like me who does'nt particularly like cooking, she made is look so easy. And in her videos, she keeps telling you how easy and simple it is to be a wonderful cook. I don't think she is not around, she is right here everyday with everyone who needs her for every single recipe of hers...Not a day goes by without seeing your ever smiling face...

- Jalpa on 07 Nov 14

Tarla aunty epitomises the words"Living on through your work". To me logging on to her website, reading her recipes that I've saved up and watching her videos on You Tube is like ringing the friendly neighbour's doorbell for help and tips. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say, I've never felt she isn't in our midst. I must admit though, as family and team members you must definitely miss her a great deal. But then you too must have a lot of fond memories to see you through and obviously you all are busy carrying her legacy forward. Wish you luck in all your endeavours. Thinking of how much influence she's had on us vis-a vis food - There's a jar of Green peppercorns in brine at home for the second year now since I learnt it on her site. Strawberry icecream's been repeated at least thrice during the season. Fada-ni- khichdi is a saviour when I'm hard up on time. Frozen corn finds its way into the lunchbox as Makai-ki- sabzi when I run out of vegetables. These are just a few of the ones that we regularly have. What I've really loved about her style is the way she pooh-poohed people's claims of how difficult a certain food preparation was- as if she had particular fun in leaking out some elitist information. I also remember reading multiple recipes on the same food . She never stopped experimenting and always wanted to share her findings on the best way she'd found. I'm way too inexperienced to comment on her -but to me she was one of a kind.

I first became aware of Tarla when I purchased a very early UK edition of Indian Vegetarian Cookery - vegetarianism was then (mid-1970s) very much a fringe thing in the UK - the leading UK Vegetarian restaurant was called 'Cranks', which says it all! How far we have come. Thank you, Tarla, for a lifetime of joyful food.

Its really disheartening to hear such a news. To be true, I was a real tomboy hating anything that had anything to do with the kitchen or cooking. All I knew was to boil water or burn bread slices for sandwiches. Watching Tarla Dalal on TV and later on website prompted me to test my cooking "(s)kills". I am still learning, but yes, she is the one who should be credited for making cooking an art.

When I got married, I was quite young and had never really thought about going into the kitchen and making things other than eggs, tea, milk, sandwich, Maggie (you know what I mean). I never really had to cook as such at my husband’s home; we had a cook coming in and enjoyed a variety of meals thanks to him. But, there were days, when there was no cook and my in – laws were also out for the day or out of town. On those days, ‘I needed to fulfil my kitchen duties’. Those were the times, I referred to Tarla Dalal. My husband and I have enjoyed many good meals on weekends and holidays thanks to Tarla Dalal’s books. Whether it was the gujarati khana, her lovely Italian dishes or my husband’s favourite paneer tikka. We loved all her recipes. I remember, when we picked up the stir fry book, we made it a point to try each and every recipe in that book whether the cook was there or not. Such is the magic of Mrs. Dalal. When I discovered ‘Cooking and More’ I had to have a new copy on my table as soon as it was out. I must say, this magazine was enjoyed thoroughly by my whole family. When my daughter was born and it was time to feed her solids, I knew what I had to do; it was Tarla Dalal’s ‘Baby and Toddler Cookbook’ all the way. Now, my little girl is 2 ½ years old and eats everything without a fuss. The passing of Tarla Dalal has been very upsetting for all of us. As young girls, women and even older women who need to learn about modernised cooking, Tarla Dalal was always there in the form of books to help us out. We all loved her and her easy to make recipes that made us ‘great’ in the kitchen. Tarla Dalal, unknowingly, lightened up the lives of many a family through her craft and it is because of her that in a country like India, where everyone just LOVES food that families are happy, energetic and sleep soundly as their tummies are filled with delicious homemade food. All the best to the entire team and thank you for carrying on her legacy!

Go to any search engine and type - "the Best, Multi-cuisine, vegetarian", Tarla Dalal will be one of the first few results. As I complete 3 decades of married life, I have strived to play a few roles to perfection in an attempt to be a good cook, a conscientious mother, an efficient homemaker, a dutiful bahu, sincere spouse and an excellent host. As a person, I like to think I have evolved in my passion for food, creativity, organizational capabilities, practical and healthy approach to living, zest for life and my willingness to "share". If I have one regret, it is that I did not thank or convey this message to the person responsible for the above - My role model, Tarla Dalal ji. But, of one thing I am sure, the Gods up there will be easier to please, now that she is with them.

- Chitra on 09 Dec 13

I learnt about Tarla Dalal from my sister in law, barely heard her say one day about her cooking then one day I remembered her name and went on youtube to check a few of her recipes and ever since I have been her fan. You have blessed us all and we will always remember you even in death..may the good lord show you the path to enlightenment.

Even after 7 years of working and improving on my cooking skills, I still refer those books. I wait for the site homepage to refresh for newer recipes. My MIL teases me all the time, what would have happened to her son, if Tarlaji wasn't there. My 4 year old also loved watching your videos. - Hema on 15 Nov 13

I was and will always be a great great fan of Tarla Dalal. I have each and every book of hers. I have always said that even if you are making a never-before-made dish for a party, if you follow Tarla Dalal’s recipe, you can’t go wrong, and in fact I have done that often – made a new dish from one of her books very confidently for a party. Lately I also watched all her videos and thought that her little tips that she gave in them (what to do and why to do it) while making a dish were so awesome because that was what made all the difference to the cooking. I will dearly miss all the videos she couldn't finish... May her Soul Rest In Peace and may the Almighty give strength to her family to bear the Loss. My support is with you and your efforts. I only wish I had the opportunity to interact personally with her while she was there....

She was and will remain to my generation - the best !!! For us vegetarians, she introduced us to a whole new world, of cooking multi cuisine world items at home and that too in veg. She literally opened our culinary journey. There can be no one like her. Once at the HongKong airport, boarding lounge for mumbai, suddenly all the women - all unknown to each other - had disappeared and grouped. The men were puzzled what had happened. Later they realised that Mrs Tarla Dalal had come there. All their wives had left them to buzz around bees to her. Such was her pull. May she live forever !!!

Tarla Dalal was indeed a great cook, but I think she was a greater human being. She came across as a very kind and good natured, simple lady with a permanent smile. The way she spoke hindi in her videos was very endearing, because she had a strong gujju accent. May her soul rest in peace.

- havovi dordi on 13 Nov 13

The tribute by Mr Sanjay Dalal and the Tarla Dalal team resonates for all of us who followed her or turned to her intermittently for guidance. On a personal level I was a tad too late in posting a thanks to two of her You Tube videos which as very rightly put, we celebrated Diwali with. Tarla aunty indeed personified “sharing of good things" as opposed to secret ingredients and closely guarded recipes that is the norm even in a family set-up. Watching her on television recently and hearing her make light of complex dishes makes me relate to her like the family member I wished I had. I considered it cheeky to "review" her recipes so it always ended up as a "thank-you" and one of these got me an autographed book which I really cherish. Tarla aunty has been part of so many food related conversations that it was only the invitations to the "RecipeBox" which made me realise I haven't actually met her. I think it was fortuitous that I contributed (the one and only time) to the last judged contest and got published. It was like being acknowledged by someone you adore. She's an inextricable part of our lives and her spirit will indeed live on through us - her extended family.

Mrs Dalal was larger in life for me in my culinary skills... Mire so than my own mom. When i moved to india after my marriage, her books helped me please my husband, in-laws and guests. It helped me boost my cooking ambition and encouraged me to try variety of cusines which are still a favourites in my house today after 17 years. I cannot imagine her physical absence but she will continue to be my guide and cooking saviour even in her absence. The website is a great resource and i hope her team continues and takes her institution to a whole new level.

Sanjay, I saw the tribute when I logged on to find a recipe and was shocked. Somehow she seemed a permanent fixture :-). You were accurate when you said she shared joy. Her food was not about just food, but the fun of making it, the thrill of experimenting, and was very valuable for vegetarians like my family. My children choose their lunch from her books so I can make it. I will definitely miss her. Do keep up the work. I am sure she is looking on from somewhere :-) Miss you Ms. Dalal.

Hello, I came to know of her demise when my mother told me yesterday. Very very sad to know about that ! I remember my mother got a recipe book written by her and even as a child I did try out a few dishes from that ! And this site served as a lifeline when I went out of the country as I am a vegetarian. This name will be etched for years to come for cooking recipes and even though I have not met her, it feels one of your teachers is missing now! My deep condolences to everyone who knew "Tarla Dalal" !
