Kokum is a traditional favourite in many parts of south and western India, and the condiment is quite famous for the indigenous sol kadhi.
Here is an age-old recipe for an appetizer that is believed to unfailingly make every drinker hungry, so it is best to serve this before a meal!
It is also a very effective coolant. This easy to make appetizer does not even need any cooking, but of course one needs to develop a taste for kokum as it has a unique flavour which requires a bit of getting-used-to!
Method- Wash the kokum peels, add the green chillies, sugar substitute and ½ cup of water and mash lightly with your fingers.
- Add 3½ cups of water and salt and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.
- To serve, strain the drink into 4 individual glasses and garnish with coriander.
- Serve immediately.
Disclaimer:- It is highly recommended that this recipe be relished by diabetics only occasionally and in small quantities. This is just a mere ‘treat’ and does not qualify for a regular diabetic menu.
