Punjabi missi roti recipe | Punjabi missi paratha | how to make Punjabi style missi roti | missi roti is a satiating Indian breakfast recipe had with a bowl of curds. Learn how to make Punjabi style missi roti.

A famous North Indian dish, Punjabi missi paratha is made with a blend of whole wheat flour and besan and a bouquet of additives like ajwain, coriander leaves and onion, which give out a very appetizing aroma when cooked to perfection. The onions give a nice taste and crunch to Punjabi missi roti.

To make Punjabi missi roti, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and knead into a stiff dough using enough water (approx. ½ cup). Divide the dough into 10 equal portions. Roll out a portion of the dough into 100 mm. (4") diameter thick circle using a little whole wheat flour for rolling. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook the roti using a little oil, till it turns golden brown in colour from both sides. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to make 9 more rotis. Serve hot.

Dough for Punjabi Missi roti

 

    1. To make Punjabi missi roti recipe | Punjabi missi paratha | how to make Punjabi style missi roti | missi roti Punjabi breakfast | take 1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta) in a deep bowl.  
    2. Add 1/2 cup besan (bengal gram flour) to it. 
    3. Add 1/2 cup finely chopped onions 
    4. Add 1 tbsp finely chopped green chillies.
    5. Add 1 tsp carom seeds (ajwain).
    6. Add 1/4 cup finely chopped coriander (dhania).
    7. Add 1 tbsp oil.
    8. Add salt to taste.
    9. Mix all the ingredients for Punjabi missi paratha very well using your fingertips. 
    10. Add enough water to knead into a stiff dough. We have used 1/2 cup of water. The amount of water you use depends on the quality of the flour. 
    11. Knead into a stiff dough. 
    12. Roll the dough into a cylinderical shape as its easy to make 10 balls out of it. 
    13. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions. 
Making the Punjabi missi roti

 

    1. Roll out each portion into a 100 mm. (4") diameter circle using a little whole wheat flour for rolling. 
    2. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and place a Punjabi missi roti on it. At this point no oil is used. Cook for a bit. 
       
    3. Allow it to cook on one side and then turn it over. 
    4. Apply a little oil on the roti and allow it to cook.
    5. Again turnover Punjabi missi roti | Punjabi paratha | and apply a little oil.   
       
    6. Cook Punjabi missi roti on tava dhaba style till it turns golden brown in colour from both the sides.
