Another treat for the indian taste buds, the potato tikki sandwich is made with a flavourful cutlet of potatoes spiced with amchur, nigella seeds and other spices. This sandwich makes use of a combination of white and brown breads, which adds to its taste.

Ingredients

5 slices brown bread , lightly buttered
5 slices white bread , lightly buttered
5 tsp tomato ketchup
1/2 cup grated carrot
1/2 cup finely chopped lettuce

For The Potato Tikkis
1 cup boiled and mashed potatoes
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
3 chopped green chillies
3/4 cup boiled and mashed green peas
3 tsp dried mango powder (amchur)
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
1/2 tsp nigella seeds (kalonji)
2 tbsp ghee
salt to taste
oil for deep-frying

Method
For the potato tikkis

  1. Heat the ghee in a pan and fry the cumin seeds until they turn brown.
  2. Add the green chillies and fry again for a while.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  4. Shape into 5 small flat thin circles. If you find it difficult to shape, add 1 tbsp of cornflour.
  5. Deep fry in hot oil till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper and keep aside.

How to proceed

  1. Apply tomato ketchup on the buttered side of each brown bread slice. Keep aside.
  2. Put the potato tikki on the buttered side of the white bread slice.
  3. Sprinkle grated carrots and lettuce over it.
  4. Cover with the brown bread.
  5. Repeat for the remaining ingredients to make 4 more sandwiches.
  6. Serve immediately.
