What’s new about dal, you might ask nonchalantly, but not after you try this innovative mooli moong dal. If you want to remove the bitterness of the radish, chop it, apply a little salt, keep aside for 5-7 minutes, squeeze out the water and use it.

Ingredients


To Be Ground Into A Paste
3 whole dry kashmiri red chillies , broken into pieces
1 tsp coriander (dhania) seeds
2 to 3 cloves (laung / lavang)
1 tsp poppy seeds (khus-khus)
2 tbsp freshly grated coconut
2 tbsp broken cashewnuts (kaju)
2 tbsp water

Other Ingredients
3/4 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
1 cup finely chopped white radish (mooli) , including the greens
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
salt to taste
1/4 cup finely chopped coriander (dhania)
2 tbsp ghee
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1/2 tsp grated ginger (adrak)

Method
  1. Combine the moong dal, radish, turmeric powder, salt and ¼ cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl, mix well and microwave on high for 8 minutes, stirring thrice in between after every 2 minutes.
  2. Add the prepared paste and coriander, mix well and microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring twice in between after every 1 minute.
  3. Put the ghee in another microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds.
  4. Add the cumin seeds, green chillies and ginger, mix well and microwave on high for 1 minute.
  5. Add the tempering to the dal, mix well and microwave on high for 4 minutes, stirring once in between after 2 minutes.
  6. Serve immediately.
