Ingredients

Method
  1. Clean, wash and soak the chana dal in water for 2 hours. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Add the turmeric powder, salt and 1½ cups of water and pressure cook till done.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan, add the cloves and cinnamon and sauté for a few seconds.
  4. Add the onions and sauté till they turn translucent, add the dill leaves and fry till colour changes to a bright green. Sprinkle little water on it.
  5. Add the chilli powder, coriander powder, ginger-garlic paste and tomatoes and cook over a medium flame while stirring continuously till the oil separates from the masala.
  6. Add the dal and bring to a boil.
  7. Serve hot.

Tips
  1. Note: Do not over fry the dill. This will darken it making the dish less attractive in its visual presentation.
