Buy plenty of green garlic when in season, and dish out this dal with a deep flavor of green lasun. Ginger, tomatoes and other spices complement the flavors and make it a totally delicious dal. Try it, taste it and savor the flavors.

Ingredients

Method
  1. Clean, wash and soak the dal in water for about 30 minutes. Drain.
  2. Add the turmeric powder, salt and 3 cups of water and pressure cook till the dal is done.
  3. Whish well and keep aside.
  4. Heat the oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds.
  5. When the seeds crackle, add the dry red chillies, ginger-green chilli paste, asafoetida and green garlic and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Add the tomatoes and sauté till the mixture leaves oil
  7. Add the cooked dal and ½ cup of water and bring to a boil.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with the chopped coriander.

Tips
  1. A mixture of chopped coriander and garlic can be substituted when green garlic is not in season
